Alaiteir's painted minis

Laziness, I can’t lie that’s the main reason I like mdf

Haha, nothing wrong with choosing convenience if it keeps the hobby fun for you!

That looks awesome, I can’t wait to see it painted!

Thanks! Still got a fair bit to add before painting (the back wall, interior details, and an attempt at a removable ceiling), but I’ll make sure to post progress shots as I go!

Adding to the update from two days ago, I’ve glued a new section to the interior!

(view of the building is base side up)

Essentially, inside that rectangle is a painted carpet, wall, and a sculpted door inset opposite one of the windows. The idea is that people will be able to look in through the windows and get the impression of a (once) functioning building, without having to go to the effort of fully making and detailing floors that won’t be accessible once the build is complete

That’s a cool idea! Should work great for adding depth on the table

Ok, this is more of a general painting techniques post, rather than a Fallout specific one. I’ve talked about using water to thin paint into a glaze before, but recently decided to buy a small pot of proper glaze medium (Citadel’s lahmian medium in this case, but there are loads of other options available). For me personally, it does seem to actually be a lot better to use, and is definitely worth picking up for a few quid if you’re planning on using glazes regularly.

This is my first attempt at painting swords/armour in a non-metallic metal technique (instead of using normal metallic/shiny paints, I use matte colours and try to paint the surface to give the illusion of reflection/shininess). Definitely room to improve , but not bad for a first attempt I think, and it showcases the sort of thing you can do with glazes

Most of my modelling time has been spent on non-Fallout related projects lately, but last night I had a rare chance to actually have a match with someone!

It was just a straight death match (albeit with a couple of strangers and items thrown onto the battlefield for interest), but it reminded me how much fun this game can be. I’m thinking about starting a settlement mode campaign, and was wondering if anyone here had any advice/tips for them?

Been doing the Settlement Mode the last couple of times we’ve played. We’re having a lot of fun with it. It restricts options a bit and creates a bit more challenge. Overall, it really doesn’t affect the gameplay much but it DOES manage to make the game a bit more immersive.

I started a thread a little while back to talk about some house rules. I haven’t really seen much talk about Settlement Mode outside of that.

It’s also a great thing to add to the rpg

We’re doing a 3 players vs. AI settlement mode campaign. We house ruled especially the part about how the items would normally have to be sold between games. Normally you drop back to zero between every game and can bring 1-2 (maybe 3) non-standard items per side - we didn’t like that part.
I can’t say much about settlement mode in player vs. player.
However you do it, settlement mode is total fun

Don’t forget there are now lockers that can be purchased to hold onto more items

I’ll have to see if I can find that thread!

Unfortunately I haven’t got anyone to play the rpg with (the people I was playing with the other night were just visiting for a day), but hopefully playing against the AI will still be a lot of fun

That’s good to hear! I’m excited to give it a go!

After an insane amount of time, I finally got around to painting the Zetan!

I focussed a fair bit on trying to get the skin tone correct, with its mottled/spotted appearance and yellow-green colouration. The pvc meant the details weren’t particularly sharp (though I can’t complain given it was free, and it’s still a really cool mini) but I think I managed to paint on enough for it to look nice!

It looks great! I think you nailed the skin tone.

I agree with @AlxRaven, the mottling is spot on to my eye :+1:

Thanks both!

Very nice! Love it. I’ve really got to get back to painting my Zetans.

Thanks! I left this guy unpainted for ages as well (got him back in the original preorder). He’s a really fun mini though, I’d recommend finding the time for him

I actually have 12 of the Alien now. At this point, I think I’m intimidated by the sheer number of them. :stuck_out_tongue:
