I’m still really happy with how it turned out. Mostly the shrinkage just means the ends don’t quite match up (I was sitting them end to end when I noticed it. I figure a vehicle across that space, or a bit of wooden planks to cover it will both break up the gray, and hide the slight height differences.
Finally started painting my Zetans:
And got the red on the boots and gloves of a little more than half of them:
And just received my new Super Mutants today. Just finished assembling a few minutes ago. Fist is likely going to make an appearance as a Brute on my table fairly often for now.
NOTES:
- Fist was a little difficult to get his right arm lined up correctly.
- The crowbar Super Mutant was a pain to build. The two arm pose was difficult to get all the pieces lined up just right.
You could do some awesome scenarios with that many zetans! Mothership Zeta comes to mind
Nuka world scenarios too, they have the animatronic aliens
I have a little side project in the works. Going to be doing the following piece and a single tank piece.
This is the basic setup for the piece. I have some detail work to do to it, then basing, painting, and weathering. This is literally made out of three soda off-shaped soda cans, a bit of foamcore, and a single pack of build-your-own-straw. The detail work I want to do will be handled with a bit of junk from my bits bin.
I picture this becoming part of a industrial facility of some form.
Got a third piece of industrial themed terrain started (Early WIP. I want to add some kind of rail to the platform and a set of stairs leading up to it.):
And this is what I’m using for inspiration:
I like the use of those straws as pipes, they look great!
These are looking good!
What I did tonight:
@robhistory I used some of your Nuka Cola bottles!
What this amounts to:
*One of the two fires, and the cooking rabbit from the “Camp Fire and Sitting Log” set from Deep Cuts.
*The wine bottle is an old Warhammer Fantasy bit.
*The three Nuka Cola bottles are 3D prints supplied by robhistory.
I plan to do a little more detail work to the stones, maybe add another small item or two to the base. But otherwise I think it’s going to look good on the table.
And for those of you who noticed the improved picture quality, it’s because I broke down and stole my wife’s phone to snap a couple of pictures earlier.
That’s great! Really characterful
That looks great! I haven’t been working on anything the last couple weeks. I even got new brushes on Friday and haven’t tried them out yet… Maybe tonight - but otherwise not until Monday.
Where did you get the oval base? The ones I’ve been sing for terrain items came from Gale Force Nine and they have been out of production for years. I am nearly out.
I got these over on Amazon. It was the last pack I saw on that size so I think they were priced cheap just to get rid of them. It was supposed to be a four pack, but they sent ten of them. They’re not really big.
That said, it looks like TTCombat has some larger ones like what I’ve seen you use (I’ve been planning to pick up a pack or two of them next time I order from TTCombat.).
They have some smaller sizes too.
Thanks. I didn’t even realize TT Combat did bases. Let me know when you order again. I might pick up some.
Can’t promise I’ll be making an order in the next month or two (MAYBE next month.), but I’ll be sure to let you know when I do. I want to pick up a set of their larger ones (The ones I have right now are a bit smaller than the ones I’ve seen you using, I’m guessing that the largest size above is probably a good match for yours.) along with a couple more brownstone houses (I want do do a street worth of them, and going to try knocking some holes in walls so we can place some ramps between buildings and create new ways to travel between buildings during play.) and a couple other things. If I understand correctly, this month is going to be the survivors miniatures, and I’m probably going to tap out my gaming budget pretty ■■■■■■■ that. (Got to populate my vault somehow!)
if any of you are at salute they might be there and if they are they usually do deals
Rob and myself are both from the states. I don’t think either of us have plans to make that trip.
I doubt I’ll have a chance to order anything this month, my drier just died, and I have my heart set on getting some Vault Dwellers this month, so I’m not going to have much to spare. Next month however should be much kinder, so I’m hoping to make an order then.
Won’t have any money until April and May, anyway. I hope to get some of the new goodies in April or May. Unless something else unexpected comes up. Now that Son is moving home, I hope that inspires me to work on things more often. His room will be in the basement next to my hobby room, so working down there will be a little less isolated and lonely. He is the real artist in the family and he USED to paint miniatures, so maybe I can get him back into it.

I have always wanted to go to salute - and spend a few weeks touring around. Somehow the money always has to go for other things. Not only are GateKeeper and I in the US, we live in South Dakota - which isn’t what you’d call center of miniature gaming. There are some good conventions in Chicago which is “only” a 10 hour drive for me. We are really fortunate to have found each other on these forums.
That would be neat. You’re welcome to bring your son by to game with us. The more the merrier.
Yeah, this part of the country isn’t exactly active for gaming. I know of a few pen and paper roleplay groups, but with the exception of a couple of stores that host I don’t really know of many people who actively game around here. Mostly the people I find to play will play only if I provide the miniatures (Which probably accounts for my obsessive need for a large collection) That said, I’m planning to run a little game with one of my boys this evening.
Been working off and on the last few days, but don’t have a lot to show for it.
An update to the item I showed a few days ago with the pringles cans:
The fencing is actually some wire mesh. It’s not fastened down, just bent into the shape I want it and sat in place. Really happy with how it looks and will try to get some better pictures once it’s fastened down and a set of stairs is built for it.I also want to make a caged ladder to the roof of the towers, but that’s going to take a bit of time to make, so it’s going to wait until I feel a bit more ambitious some evening.
The other thing is the sign from the Red Rocket set. Like the gas pumps, I wanted to do something a little more permanent with it.
I did up the base, glued the sign to it. Painted up a crate and a tire and added a little tuft of grass to make the lack of symmetry with the stand less obvious. After taking the picture, I decided to add a traffic cone (Painted up five of them this evening.) to the foreground of the piece. I also painted up a little gas can that I ultimately decided not to use with this particular piece
