GateKeeper's Models and Terrain

Yeah, it was a cheap build for sure. The foamcore and mesh tape were probably the most expensive parts (And I barely used any of the mesh tape, so have a ton of that for future projects if I can find a use for it), the rest of it was trash, . . . some over sized cans from energy drinks, few old CDs that were too scratched up to use, little bits of wire, that kind of thing.

Best of luck with the build.

For the crops, depends on how much you want to invest into it. O Gauge model train crops are a perfect fit for the game, but can be a little spendy.

All three are still WIP. Swan is coming along nicely, and the other two I just started painting in earnest tonight.

Left to right:
Swan
Shaggy (I am doing a group of Super Mutants in the Scooby Gang theme. Thought it would be fun to do Shaggy as a Behemoth. SD tattoo on the shoulder like Scooby’s dogtag, and felt the diner sign was sort of symbolic of his need to eat all the time. Wanted to strap a door from the Mystery Machine to his arm, but never found anything that looked right.)

Been working on a little something. Going to make a little drive-in style diner. This would be for the covered area where you can park cars and order.

Image 1: The whole project. Two end pieces are fully constructed but largely unpainted.
Image 2: Closeup of the middle piece where the rubble from the broken cover fell. Might do a little cosmetic work on it but it’s otherwise done. Will be matching the end pieces color to the rubble color. Also includes a couple WIP cars.
Image 3: Going to be using these little menus for the piece, placing them where the cars would pull in to order from. Did some Drumlin Diner and some Big Boy, this way I can do them as their own little bases and swap them out if I want to.
Also have a round diner that’s WIP, but it’s too early to share yet. Got a failed print car I want to bury part way in rubble to hide the bad part I’m thinking about making part of the set too.

Finished up a few vehicles for the table, and finally got the 3d printed Mirelurks on bases with the intent to run a big 1500 point Mirelurk army tomorrow.

Black ones will eventually be painted as standard Mirelurks.
Dull greens will be Softshells, Blues will be Nukalurks, Bright greens will be Glowing, and brown will be Razorclaws.

For the Hunters, going with two standard, two Nuka, one Glowing, and one Albino.

1500 point game. Mirelurks vs Settlers

The table setup was a lot of fun. 3x4 table. First time ever that we only used Fallout vehicles and didn’t mix any vehicles from the 50’s into the ranks.

First image: Mirelurks setup zone.

Second and Third image: Full table.

Early in the game, both sides moved to engage. Settlers holding back slightly to take pot shots at the Mirelurks while the Mirelurks rushed to meet us.

The center of the table quickly turned into a grinder. The settlers arraying themselves to unload on Mirelurks as they moved through the gauntlet of old world scrap. We mowed them down almost as fast as they could scramble through the bottleneck. Few casualties on our side.

Even the Queen fell to the relentless barrage from Boone’s Hunting Rifle and Cass’ Caravan Shotgun. And none too soon either because the Fog Crawler was eating ground as it made its way to our killbox. Thank God for Curie’s healing ability because that Fog Crawler dished out some serious damage.

After the Fog Crawler and last Mirelurk Hunter were down we had probably 1200 points of Settlers to the maybe 250 points of Mirelurks, so it quickly became a cleanup exercise as we cleared out the last of them.

Some WIP stuff I started last night:

Centaurs need some detail work and some bases.

Master Blaster needs detail work and base work.

Trash cans just have a base coat on them.

My goal for this week is to weather all of these:

The white one I did a long time ago, the rest I intend to take the shine off of and shoot for the same effect on them. Nice thing about the cargo containers, the failures are just shorter and can be made to look like they’re partially buried in dirt/water.

Feels like forever since the last time I posted anything over here. And since my real life drama has finally started to settle down and I’ve started to assemble some models again, I thought now is as good a time as any to post a little WIP stuff I have started, as well as some of the stuff I’m looking at as a possible next project after that.

A few of the models I threw a splash of color onto just to tell them apart (Dark green will eventually be Glowing variants, light green will be Softshell, blue will be Nukalurks)

Eventually I hope to do everything up like this:
Mirelurk Queen: Standard and Nuka variants.
Fog Crawler: Standard and Shipbreaker
Kings: Standard, Glowing, Nuka.
Hunters: Two standard, two nuka, one glowing and one albino.
Mirelurks: 8 Standard, 6 softshell, 8 Nuka, 2 Glowing, 2 Razorclaw.
Hatchlings: 8 Standard, 8 Nuka, 5 Hermit Crab Hatchlings

Finished building my Gatorclaws a couple of days ago, still trying to figure out how I want to paint them up to make it easy to tell them apart.

And then there’s what I’m working on right now. I’d printed off a bunch of Nukatrons a while back and painted them up, always ran them as Protectrons with a Thirst Zapper as a ranged attack, but with official models out now, I felt I should add a couple of official models to the roundup. That said, since I already had so many painted up in Nuka colors, I took two of the four new ones and shaved the “Nuka Cola” off the chest so I could do something a little different with them. These are on my table right now.

Hopefully this is the start of me getting back on track with hobby stuff. The amount of stuff I need to paint is starting to get crazy.

Not sure why, but all the photos are broken (don’t display).

Cheers.

I suspect it might be because I uploaded from my phone rather than embedding them from elsewhere. Can’t say for sure though.

Lets do a little test. See if this will stick around for more than a day or two:

This is actually most of my collection. 32 miniature totes. (Minus the bulk of my terrain, Liberty Prime, two Mirelurk Queens, and a couple of Behemoths.) Most of the totes are focused to a single faction, with major factions sometimes having more than one tote.

The vast majority of my Protectrons, Nukatrons, Assaultrons, Eyebots, Robobrains, and Mr Handy models.

Played a game today, Mechanist with a robot army against a Mirelurk army. First half of the game, I thought my Mirelurks were going to win, but a couple of lucky-very hard hitting attacks knocked two of my Hunters off the board and from there on it quickly became a rout. Was a lot of fun.

PS: Letting a group of Softshell Mirelurks get into a fist fight with a Sentrybot, . . . is NOT a good idea either.

Painted up a couple of Zip cars this week. Happier with the red one than the blue. @robhistory brought them and a couple of other goodies by when we last gamed and they felt like a good place to start.

Also, tried something different with the images again to see if I can get them to stick around for more than a day or two this time.

Been trying to get some painting done recently, my pile of unpainted plastic is reaching epic proportions and it’s long past time I try to put a dent in it, . . . or at least slow it’s growth.

And I think now its time to size up mountain of raiders I need to assemble, . . .
