Using resources from other upcoming Dune products

Hi, I hope this ok. Thought I’d do a roundup of all the Dune projects (books, comics, TV, etc) that upcoming. Hopefully there may even be stuff here that can enhance your Dune RPG experience. I’ll update as I find stuff.

The general announcement for games and other products by Gale Force 9 is here:

Film and Television

“An adaptation of Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson’s book based in the world created by Frank Herbert’s Dune, Dune: The Sisterhood explores this universe through the eyes of a mysterious order of women, the Bene Gesserit, whose extraordinary mastery of body and mind allow them to expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium.

Genre: Drama

Director: Denis Villeneuve

Executive Producers: Denis Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, and Dana Calvo; and Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert for the Frank Herbert estate

Co-Producer: Kevin J Anderson”

“A legend begins in Dune: Duke of Caladan, first in The Caladan Trilogy by New York Times bestselling authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Leto Atreides, Duke of Caladan and father of the Muad’Dib. While all know of his fall and the rise of his son, little is known about the quiet ruler of Caladan and his partner Jessica. Or how a Duke of an inconsequential planet earned an emperor’s favor, the ire of House Harkonnen, and set himself on a collision course with his own death. This is the story.

Through patience and loyalty, Leto serves the Golden Lion Throne. Where others scheme, the Duke of Caladan acts. But Leto’s powerful enemies are starting to feel that he is rising beyond his station, and House Atreides rises too high. With unseen enemies circling, Leto must decide if the twin burdens of duty and honor are worth the price of his life, family, and love.”

Computer games

Funcom have been given rights to PC and console games based on the Dune franchise. Reports state there is a MMO in the works. Sadly no announcement on their own website here:

I’ve been doing some more digging into the Funcom game. They are still being fairly tight lipped about most of it though.
We know it is an Open-world survival game in the mould of Conan Exiles. We also know that it is going to be designed as a Game as a Service. Which normally translates to Expensive, but also maintained.

“The biggest, most exciting and most ambitious of our projects is without a doubt the DUNE open-world survival game we’re working on, after having secured the exclusive rights for PC and Console games with this fantastic IP,” Funcom CEO Rui Casais said in the report. “It’s a game that is still a few years away and will be a more ambitious and robust version of Conan Exiles set in the DUNE universe, designed to be a game as a service from the outset.”

Another interesting point is that when Funcom received a large investment from Tencent they explicitly linked it to expanding the scope of the Dune game. There are still a lot of job adverts out which specify that they will be working on Dune.
Given that I’m not expecting to see anything on this before the end of 2022 at the earliest.

“And of course, there is also our upcoming Dune survival game,” read the 2020 Holiday Letter from Funcom. "It was already an ambitious project when we first announced it last year, but the scope has expanded further during pre-production. With Tencent now backing us, we are emboldened to drive forward our ambition in the multiplayer survival genre and increase the quality and scope of this game. This is the major reason for why we’ve added people to our workforce this year and for why are actively looking to expand much further in the coming year, with more than 50 positions currently open
