Starship names that really should exist...(but don't)

I have made some researches to make my semi comical answer. For better or worse he’s on the list of Peace Nobel prises that nobody remember. Hopefully for Canada, his favorite flag wasn’t chosen. I have tried to make some adventure hooks based on their histories for both Dag Hammarskjöld and Lester B. Pearson, if your players like history they might like it.

people forget the suez canal crisis and peacekeeping?

Suez canal crisis no. The name of the negotiator, sadly yes. Ask people the name of a Peacemaker, many will respond John Cena. Not going to discuss of history here, but I like the guy better for what he did for workers’ rights, even if it was late compared to France, than for his Nobel prize. There’s better peacekeepers in the Star Trek universe, Spock for his work for Vulcan/Romulan people, Sisko for ending the Maquis Rebellion (some people on the Nobel list are questionable too).

In a Federation of over 200 members, thousands of worlds, I’m over the Earth-named ships. Earth seems to be the “US” of the Federation in Star Trek( ie Earth runs the UFP, Earth is the centre of everything and American-exceptionalism is replaced by Earth-exceptionalism… but of course, it looks like Americans run Earth). Honestly, as a non-American, this is what really ruins Star Trek for me. UFP is supposed to be the ideal… imagine writing as tory sold as the ideal utopian society and in the background… women could not vote… incongruent with an ideal society. Anyway, in additon to a ship being named after every single member world, here are the non-Earth, non-humancentric ship ideas off the top of my head:

USS Sarek
USS Spock
USS Shallash
USS Shran
USS Aenar
USS Weytan
USS T’Pau
USS Soval
USS Gral
USS Fifth House
USS Rixx
USS T’Planahoth
USS Elaan
USS Phylos
USS T’Khut
USS ShiKahr
USS New Xindus
USS Stratos
USS Yonada
USS Great Awakening
USS B’hala

USS Mount Seleya (New Orleans Class)

USS T’Pol (Maybe Springfield for the scent…)

My Bajoran character in STO flies the B’Hala. She also has the USS Bajor, Kejal (freedom), and Ha’Dara (home).

My campaign takes place on the U.S.S. Banneker, named for Benjamin Bannker, regarded as America’s first Black astronomer. He was a mathematician, an almanac author, and an abolitionist who corresponded with Thomas Jefferson. Sadly most of his personal writings were lost in a fire, but his legacy lives on.

In honor of his work as an almanac writer, all shuttles are named after old American almanacs (Poor Richard, Boston Ephemeris, The Annual Visitor…)

The ship’s plaque reads:
“Never abandon your vision. Keep reaching to further your dreams.”

The Royal Navy used to have a policy, certainly with the first Batch of Type 22 frigates, of naming the ships helicopter to align with the sip’s name. The first batch of Frigates were all named starting B - Brilliant, Broadsword, Battleaxe, Brazen etc… Broadsword’s helicopter was “Hewer”, Battleaxe’s was “Hatchet”, Brazen was “Hussy” and so on.

Our Danube shuttle was nicknamed BP1, stands for Boat People One, because of its carry people configuration and many, many overcrowded civilian emergency evacuation flights. Even Arc Milestones were spend to upgrade it.

USS Hubert Reeves has been sent to the stars

(Long time lurker, first time poster - Hi all!)
NCC-1827, USS Black Joke. On a five year mission to suppress Orion piracy and slave trading, setting out shortly after season 2 of the animated series.
Thematically, she should probably be a captured Orion slave trader, but I prefer a Sombra class, which were viewed as being ‘fast’.

My last STA game, the runabout they had access to was the Kuskokwim.
The ship’s name escapes me entirely…

I’ve used in a different ST based game the USS Byrd. (SFU ship: GSC NCC 1800). I generally don’t use the current USN mode, largely because Trek ain’t the USN… and canon includes a number of one name selections in various ships, Such as the Angelou, Archer, Armstrong, Bradbury, Checkov, Clark, Chochrane, Coleman, Crockett, Drake, Drexler, Earhart, Edison, Farragut…

the US ship USS Farragut (DDG 99) lists on its USN site a page for it’s namesake, Admiral David Glasgow Farragut… but no USS Farragut has used his full name…
So even the US of A’s USN is inconsistent.

I’m rather late to the party on this thread, but that I know a little about the period you’re referencing and that is an awesome name.
