I wrote this topic to thank the Modiphius’ team for the free Mission Briefs. They are all well done and easily usable.
I have run many of them and they saved my game session several times when I was in lack of inspiration.
Two weeks ago I have run the Megafauna Meet Cute scenario and it was so hilarious that I decided to post my game resume.
Thanks again.
Spoilers Ahead
Players:
- An Orion Captain
- A Trill Head Medic
- A Vulcan Head Science Officer Sensor Specialist
- A Hulman Conn Officer
Many good support characters from their previous ship that were transferred from previous ship, they were not used a lot in this mission but my players always think to use at least 2 or 3 in every session to make them grow and add a free support die.
First and foremost the ship of our crew is a Nebula class the USS Andromeda with a spying and infiltation mission profile with discreet signature and top notch sensors. Because of this mission profile and because it has an Orion captain the players decided that on first look it was not obvious that the ship looks like a Starfleet ship and can be confused with an Orion ship and most of their missions to these day were infiltration, espionage, sabotage and behind enemy lines missions in the Dominion War.
First scene the Captain was angered to be assigned to this mission, she thought that her ship could be used for a most vital mission. As in many unpopular mission I added an hindrance a civilian researcher that will be in charge of this mission a space mollusk specialist.
When the Trill medical officer rolled to see what he knew about space mollusk he rolled so high that I decided that he was part of the first crew that discovered the species in a previous incarnation. Si here come the second fun moment when the civilian researcher met one of her idol the Starfleet officer that motivated her to study space mollusk.
When the players voiced their plans to simply use tractor beam to put mollusks aside the traffic lane I spend some threat to give the species the fragile trait and increase the complication range. My players are cautious because they very frequently roll and reroll high. A 20 rerolled 20 is common so a complication range at 18 is usually a good option and also my sentence “it will surely goes well unless I spend some threat” that spared me many threat expenses.
The sensor specialist scanned the mollusk to determine the plasma emission that the space mollusk use for communication and reproduction. The Vulcan was as happy as a Vulcan can be because for the first time since he was assigned to this ship he will be able to publish his results because they weren’t classified. I made him rolled to be sure that no technical secret sensor stuff were published. It was also a good roleplay moment.
After that the engineer had to do his stuff to emit the same kind of plasma with the ship. A complication on the roll triggered the male attack.
But when the male mollusk attacked the ship but rolled very poorly and because of the fragile trait broke his shell. So the engineer teleported a ship breach repair polymer to repair the mollusk shell (I have at one point thought about sending a team on the shell but voted against it in the end to not kill the mood)
We have laugh a lot in this game with mo universe level goal so thanks to the authors
