Maximum Talents

For anyone that has run an extended campaign, how many talents did your PCs end up having by the end? PCs start with 3. The most any NPC I have seen has is 5. In Star Trek Adventures (STA) the starting is 4, and it seems significantly harder to actually improve your character in STA than in Dune. Does too many Talents potentially make the characters unwieldy?

Three should keep them going to start with.
But its your game, so if you want to run at a higher level or power or grant quicker advancement thats fine, it won’t break the game.

My players got to between 4 and 6 talents each in playtesting the House Management rules… over about a 4 month span with 5 hour sessions. Most had raised 2-3 skills, too.

Ironically, my players for my last STA wanted more Dune-like advancement.

Far more important, tho’, was the accumulation of long-term assets. Some were not character assets, being represetations of political maneuvers, some were. One, a BG, took a trait “Wierding Way” to represent the specific extra effort she had for martial matters. (She was a truthsayer for the house.) Others were.
(note that getting to keep the personal ones requires buying up the talent for extra assets.)
