Long Blades vs Short Blades

Wondering how (or if) people are differentiating long blades and short blades in combat?

No. Close combat asset work the same, only the quality of the asset make a difference. But, they use different focus. A person with a short sword focus of quality 1 as the same stats of a person with long sword focus of quality 1. It may make a roleplaying difference for someone trying to hide a knife vs long sword.

Note that the Kinjal has a slight advantage;
As an Asset: The Kindjal can cut through personal shields and can be used in artistic displays of sword use. Many noble Houses engrave the hilts with their House emblem.

Any blade can cut through a shield. Its the speed of the attack that matters.

@Andy-Modiphius wondering if you have any thoughts?

Basically knives and daggers are short blades, swords are long blades.
Kindjals are a tricky one as they could be both. I’d err towards short blades as they fight more in a dagger style than a sword style, but thats one the GM can rule.

But is there a mechanical difference between swords and daggers? It seems like not unless the GM determines there is a situational advantage to one or the other?

Nope, no difference at all.
Getting stabbed with either will kill you.
The idea of Dune combat is that it is the skill of the practitioner that really decides who wins. An unskilled person with a sword won’t stand much chance against a skilled knife fighter. In the same way, a knife fighter using a sword isn’t very good either.
Part of the skill is using a weapon is knowing how to maximize its advantages and minimize the disadvantages.
A good knife fighter can fight close, which not only makes their weapon easier to score a hit with but makes a longer weapon more awkward.

Sounds good. Thank you!
