Soaking damage in combat

Just to sure I understand combat correctly.

On damage from say a broadsword you roll X D6 and add up the damage from 1,2,5&6.

Let’s forget about parry for a second.

When it comes to soak damage armor is a fixed value as in you don’t roll dices… Just deduct it?
Whereas cover gives you dices? That you roll and add up?

Just making sure I have it right:)

Yes, you’ve got it right - roll damage, reduce it by armour (a fixed value) and cover (an extra random amount on top of armour).

ty  for clearing it up
