Hi all, I have an edge case question on charge bonuses which I can’t resolve in the rule book.
Short version: Is a charge marker discarded at the end of the Activation, the end of the Round or at the start of the next Activation (or not at all until it is used or cancelled by another action.
Long version (i.e. why this is important)
The scenario going around my head is:
A Brute, charging a settler on his second action. The charge is successful (with Battlecry as well, because why not?) so the Brute moves into base to base contact with the settler and chooses not to push back. The Brute has no bonus actions to use so he is exhausted.
The Settler then activates and moves away from the Brute. The Brute gets a free attack. Does the charge bonus still apply?
In the rules it says that if the Brute does any action other than attacking the model he charged then he loses the markers. He has not done so
The rule also say that, once an attack has been made against said unit, the markers are discarded. This also has not yet happened.
I cannot find anything else in the rules which specify at which point the marker should be discarded.
Most of the other rules have us discard bonuses at the end of activation, but not all.
Thematically it makes the most sense to me that you would lose these bonuses at the end of the activation because it’s all about the fury of the charge, not the fury of charging followed by a long pause while everyone looks at their watch
I’ve checked the latest errata and FAQ as well as this thread (by keyword search, not in full detail) and can’t see that anyone else has asked yet.
I believe that the marker would apply, as (at least how I’ve been running it) the marker stays with him until he either attacks or does an action that isn’t an attack. Happy to be proven wrong if someone else knows differently though
That is certainly how it’s written. I’m not sure it’s what was intended though. Most markers specifically state when they are removed and the Charge Bonus marker specifies this for most scenarios as well which makes it seem like an oversight.
He gets to use the marker on the next attack he does Vs the model he charged. This is not restricted by how that attack is initiated. A free attack is still an attack
What if I want to attack as the first action of my next activation (so next round) I can’t see anything in the rules which expressly forbid this or state that the bonus will be removed then but it goes beyond what any other modifier offers in the game.
This is what makes me think it’s not what was intended. It makes no thematic sense to have an advantage for a charge so long after the event.
One round is just a short time in real life. Even we are playing in turns does not really mean these guys are just waiting when they could have their go. Everything on one round is happening almost simultaneously.
But, still, the charge bonus seems to be the benefit for “coming in swinging”. 10 seconds is still a long time to retain such a benefit. Hypothetically, if both players chose not to activate their models, the bonus would never expire (I realise that is a nonsense which would never really happen but I’m just trying to illustrate my point that it seems like an errata correction may be needed)
Thanks again everyone for engaging with my pedantry
HI! I’m new to the forum I’m not sure if this is the right thread but I bought The rpg version of Fallout wasteland warfare and have been having a blast creating a adventure with my friends! I really like the cards idea for it instead of writing everything down in a way I feel like its easier to keep track of. I’ve bought multiple wave packs/mini sets and I don’t see alot of the cards from the rpg book in the wave packs. Is there a way I can buy individual cards? I see I can download the cards from the site and print them but id rather just buy the cards I need so I can get multiples of various characters or items for my rpg adventure!
Hello! So I’m new here and just bought my starter set earlier this week, I’m pretty excited I’ve read the free rulebook and have watched a few youtube let’s plays and I think I’m really going to get into this game. If not for the least that it gives me ways to enjoy fallout I’ve been pining for for ages.
but you let me know if I’m rambling - in all seriousness I do have questions:
I also found the demo version you guys have set up on Tabletop Simulator and saw the note on the table there about a full version coming to Tabletop Simulator as well. This has me pretty excited as considering the public health crisis and the fact that in America it’s not likely to get better soon (I hope it doesn’t feel like I’m dragging politics into this discussion, that’s not my intention, just that I don’t see how it’s likely for me to be able to safely see other people for reasons other than work, healthcare, banking, groceries and other necessities for a while). At this point the only way I can see that I’ll be able to enjoy the game with other people in the near future is online, otherwise I mean I’m sure I’ll still enjoy the game, I’ll just be confined to doing so by myself. Like I said I’ve already bought my starter set and I have plans to buy more as my budget allows (I’m financially stable enough right now I can probably invest on a monthly basis), but I was curious if there was any kind of date set on when the full version would be out on TTS? I understand how things can be if not, if there’s no certain date as of yet, I understand and was merely curious (and a little excited).
I’ve also looked over a few let’s play videos featuring the game, which made it look pretty cool and since I have wondered about let’s playing in the past and have read a little bit about it I was wondering what the process is for getting permission to feature let’s plays of the game? Certainly I want to respect everybody’s rights and such, so as much as this sounds like it could be fun, I do feel it’s important to have permission first. If I did I would also want to be able to monetize the videos via ads, so I guess that’s where it can get hazy in that departments and you need permission. Anyway, how do you get permission for that?
Thankyou! I’m looking forward to getting my copy of the game (whenever that will be with the epidemic on and trans-atlantic shipping being backed up) and buying more content for the game as well. I even live across the street from a gaming store now, so even if I don’t get to enjoy the game with other people for a while I will hopefully be able to eventually!
No firm date on the full version for TTS yet, this is a very new area for us to explore plus we need to ensure the licensor is on board through the whole process.
You are free to host lets plays etc as you like. It helps spread the word about the game
hello!
on the page 12 of the Errata v.4 is there changes for Hound bite. “For bottle icon on the blue dice remove Reaction token corrected to show token”.
What does it mean? Hound recieve the reaction token for the bottle icon?
question about mines
how does frag mines work? if mine explode immediately when target come in yellow area then how it is possible to take damage from mine`s orange area?
Hi guys, haven’t been able to find a answer to this and got no reply on the facebook group. Unless I’m mistaken I can’t see a points cost for the heavy weapon mount card. Is this intentional, am I missing something or is this currently not included in the points list? Any answer would be appreciated as it is a fun card. If it’s points are missing surprised no one has mentioned it already.
Hey, just another question regarding Frank Horrigan. If you purchase all of his cards there is not an exclusion from buying perks/heroic/leader like there is other restrictions for him (at least that I could see). If this is intended then how does it work. If you were to buy perks for Frank would they be bought once and affect all cards or once per card?
Also is it intended that X-01 be excluded from Enclave training? I appreciate that Fallout 3 Enclave don’t use X-01 but it did used to be the main Enclave armour, and still is for many remnant forces outside of Ravem Rock. Frank himself even wears an altered version of X-01.
If the Settler runs away, breaking contact with the Brute, the Brute gets a free swing at -2, but he gets to add whatever dice he had as a bonus from charging (and Battle Cry). For game mechanics, all the units are moving almost at once. There’s not really a large gap between each unit’s actions.
One potential fly in the ointment pertaining to Battle Cry, the attack is resolved before the pushback, so if the Brute moved, passed Battle Cry, and then charged, he wouldn’t be able to do the pushback, because he was out of actions.
(He could have been Heroic and gained an Action Point and used that for a Quick Move action or he could have earned an Action point when he succeeded his Battle Cry, but those are just weird situations that could happen, not in the actual example.)
