Hi everyone. This is my first time running John Carter of Mars, so I’m still getting used to the rule system, and I have a question about core equipment.

After the group defeated their adversaries, a player controlling a Terran soldier wants to claim one of the swords from the fallen enemies. Honestly, I’m not sure how to handle this. My initial thought was to spend Threat to have the other characters (all Martians) prevent him from taking it, since the human hasn’t yet earned the trust of Barsoom’s natives… but what if another character (a Martian) wants to take a sword from the defeated foes? How should I proceed?

He can take the sword but that does not make it part of his core equipment. You can easily take it from him without paying him any momentum and he cannot regain it by paying momentum.

Ah, I see… I thought there were other implications beyond just using Momentum to make a character lose a piece of equipment or recover it. Thank you very much for the clarification.
