Wounds and trauma

Yes.

To be as clear as possible, the three conditions that can cause a Wound are:

  1. Suffering 5+ damage in a single hit (after reduction for armour and cover)
  2. Suffering enough damage to reduce the target to 0 Vigor
  3. Suffering 1+ damage (after reduction for armour and cover) when you were at 0 Vigor before the damage roll

Now, 2 and 3 are mutually exclusive, so you can suffer a maximum of 2 Wounds from a single attack under normal circumstances, and nothing can cause you to have negative Vigor. There are some specific exceptions to this (Intense weapons, a melee talent I canā€™t remember the name of right now), but thatā€™s the core of it.

And mental attacks work the same way, just replace armour, cover, Vigor, and Wounds with courage, morale, Resolve, and Traumas, respectively.

Thanks that makes itā€™s super clear by crom!

Ah I screwed up last game.

My assassin was killing somebody and I thought my 28 stress dealt (yay garrote) dealt several wounds. My bad.

That lead to the mistake of nearly killing another PC later when we followed the same logic and the PC took 4 wounds from a guy with an axe in 1 shot.

That was a great garrotte strike. Would have been really cool against a mob of 5 minions as you strangled them one by one.

Later I did a similar attack against 3 minions. I didnā€™t bring up the overflow rule because it seemed like the GM had put one for each of us to kill.
