The Sidebar describes Zingara as “Reconquista-era Spain.
Doing some research, I feel this could describe 2 periods in Spain: the North-African Muslim+ Taifa-ruled time starting in the 900s/1100s or the later Christian reconquered time starting in the 1400s.
To me, having read every pdf text about Zingara, both are plausible. The art and dress are definitely influenced by the Muslim Taifa period.
I always saw the Zingarans as the late medieval Spanish and Portuguese. Them being divided but still being a naval power seems to point towards this as well.
