How do mini guns/ gatling lasers work?

Do i roll once and hit 5 times? Do i roll 5 times to hit? Can i spread the hits over an area (why is the 5 damage in yellow)?

This is an ability I have mixed feelings on. It can be very powerful but rolling 5 separate attacks slows down the game. Not to mention tracking the armor penetration bonus.

I hear you with slowing down the game on a bunch of separate attacks. You could alleviate this if you had enough extra dice. I’ve watched a few experienced wargamers in situations like this where they gather up the dice for each shot, point to each model they are shooting at, and then quickly roll all shots to different parts of the table. It actually goes pretty fast.

Only caveat is having enough dice.
