Mr-Flibble: Agreed the big one-ten on this, and quite gratified to see that you, among other people - several others, actually, that I’ve spoken to over the last year - have the same approach. From the moment it started to surface publicly in '04 or thereabouts, I’ve had a gut-level distrust of Facebook and its related outlets, and have not, do not, and likely never will participate in activities that engage such companies and/or organizations.
Leaving that subject aside, it does bring up a topic that was never touched on in any of the various Trek series, at least to the best of my knowledge: journalistic integrity. Doing the supposition bit on the nature of journalism in Ent, TOS, or TNG eras could result in an entire episode-arc of games in and of itself - the characters could, for example, be engaged in a criminal mystery that ends up involving high-ranking Federation/Starfleet personnel, such as uncovering a Section 31 conspiracy - and could, I imagine, involve one or more motivated Player characters drawing up their own pieces, and possibly gaining a few Momentum points from doing your basic Darned Good Job.
Thanks a lot, @Modiphius-Jim, since I do not use Facebook/Twitter, I would never have found that!
So, I reckon there are about 10 new species, several new NPC spaceframes, not only a section on the Cardassian Union / Ferengi Alliance, but also about associated worlds, respectively; information on interesting regions within the Alpha Quadrant and artwork of Ben Sisko’s father’s restaurant – wow! Really appreciate that and now can even less wait to get my hands on the stuff, next week!
I don’t know whether I understand correctly, what you mean. But you may look at DS9 episode 6x01, “A Time to Stand”, where the subject is at least touched.
“Investigations” [Voyager] did get into journalistic ethics through both Neelix’s efforts and Harry Kim’s anecdotes about his time as senior editor of the Starfleet Academy newspaper. It was all pretty standard-issue stuff about duty to the truth and journalist vs. the state (in the form of Tuvok). There’s certainly room to do more with it.
PGoodman13: My apologies about that; I will refrain from pulling the thread off its subject matter any further.
One final point - I do think that an examination of journalism, both as a sociological/anthropological force and profession in the Twenty-Second/Third/Fourth century, does deserve further examination and/or extrapolation, but that’s something to turn into the subject matter for another thread. Back to the Alpha Quadrant discussion stuff.
Approached my LGS about this one a few days ago and they got back to me saying that they hadn’t been able to find anything through their suppliers. Bit strange considering I’m UK based.
Anyone able to tell me who is distributing this in the UK (I assume asmodee?) and if the whole- no pre-orders - thing also applies to bricks and mortar shops?
Got my PDF… The art for the species which are illustrated is rather nice; the Edosian is gorgeous. Unfortunately, as with Beta Quadrant, some of the species have no in-chapter illo… and those are the ones I don’t know, and so need most…
Of course we’ve never seen a Tzenkethi onscreen. An odd note - their physiology is obviously based on that from the novels (rather than STO), but never mentions that they are humanoid. I was left wondering why they’re so attractive if they’re basically a large mollusc (which is implied by the whole fluid-filled sacs thing)!
I’m also sad to see the lack of any Tzenkathi ships, which proably would have been more useful for for as a GM then Talaran ships which are too primiative to be much of a threat. although I’ve noticed Mor[hedius seems to shy from giving stats for things not specificly depicted on screen.
