I was all set to answer that question when I realized it was a link to an article. It is a good article.
For me, Dune is significant as Sci-Fi for all those reasons, and is clearly a massively seminal piece of work. For me, personally, it is significant as science fiction because it applies rationality to explain mystical ideas.
