Discord problem

Just to say that since the moment Modiphius Discord server wanted my cellphone to allow me to post on it I haven’t posted anything and seldom read it too.
I wonder if it’s the case for others
I find this security choice annoying.

Same. I refuse.

Now I only look in when something reminds me. Which, at best, could be once a week.

I have not had this issue, although I have no idea if it’s because I have ‘global’ discord settings set. I’ve also never had any discord channel ask me to do this. Was it a standard ‘allow this setting’ type of pop up?

Nope, it is in the "Reply’ box.

Just looked it up, it’s a standard Discord security feature that any server can enable. https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/216679607-Verification-Levels (it’s the highest level).

There’s a reasonable chance you’ve just never been on a server that required it; and a similar chance that I had already verified so Modiphius specifically didn’t ask me. Of note: you can use a fake/temp phone (against discord’s ToS)—or you could just spin up a google voice number that you actually have permanent access to.

I totally understand that it’s a discord security level.
I will not give Discord my mobile number.
My phone is discharged most of the time.
I find this security level too high unless Modiphius explain why they have put it in place (like a cyber attack).
My defence against cyber attack is to never give personal data.

There was a spate of bots spamming the discord last year. Pinging everyone on most of the channels.

There are still a few that get through. But they cant @.everyone and I think they are mainly hacked accounts now.

You can use a google voice number. It allows you to receive texts. You can even create a new google account/email just for that number, so nothing real of yours is revealed.
